Getting Started
To begin, navigate to the Legal Research module from your dashboard on the left.
Once you open Legal Research, you can view your recent research tasks or start a new one by selecting the blue New Research tile in the top right corner.
There are four ways to start a matter in Legal Research:
Start from a saved matter
Select a matter you have already created in the Matter Portal.Import a Statement of Facts
Already created a Statement of Facts? You can use it to get started.Import a file
Upload a file from your Document Hub or directly from your computer.Enter information manually
Start from scratch by entering the case details yourself. Be as detailed as possible for the best results.
Based on the option you select, your fact pattern may be automatically populated or you may need to enter the information manually. Complete all required fields before continuing.
Once finished, select Next to move to How would you like to conduct your research? and choose your preferred research method.
Choose how you would like to conduct your research:
1. Auto Generate Research
Your research will be generated automatically. This option is best for saving time and getting started quickly with your initial research.
2. I’ll Conduct the Research Myself
Take a more hands-on approach with greater control over the research process. This option is ideal for more complex or larger matters, while still providing guidance throughout the workflow.
3. Quick Response From Assistant
Get faster summaries of legal concepts and simple drafts that do not require substantial research. We’ll pre-load your overview to help you get started.
For this example, we selected Auto Generate Research. Once selected, you’ll be taken directly to Analysis. You can return to previous steps at any time to review sections such as Cause of Action, Authorities, and more.
Once your analysis is complete, you can copy or download it using the options in the top right corner of the Analysis page.
To create a document in Legal Research, select Draft Documents. From there, choose from the available drafting options to generate your work product.
You can return to previous steps at any time to review, edit, and regenerate your research flow as needed.
For best results, we recommend generating your initial draft in Legal Research first. If you would like to refine, revise, or iterate on that draft, you can continue working in Assistant.
For any questions about this workflow, you can start a chat by clicking the support bubble in the bottom right corner of your screen. We are happy to help!
